Our Story
My name is Ava Decker and I started Birthday Wish Foundation because I believe that every child deserves a birthday, whether they can afford it or not. I am still a kid, but I have had some amazing birthday parties: a Harry Potter themed party where my parents rented a bus decorated to look like the Hogwarts Express that picked us up at the train station, going to New York to see Wicked and Hamilton on Broadway, and going to Universal Studios and staying in a fancy hotel next to the park. As you read this, you are probably thinking, ‘Wow, she comes from a lot of privilege,” and you are right. Now, I feel called to give back in a way that is meaningful.
My mom has always done a lot of non-profit work and I wanted to see what it is like. I started Birthday Wish as a project for my school program Insight Academics.
What We Do
Birthday Wish is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit. We partner with respected local businesses and donor families to deliver birthday packages to children. Even a small donation makes a big impact on a child’s life. While we have some adult leaders, we are mostly kid-run.
